Invest, Teach, Inspire: How Sports Transforms Communities in Eldoret

How a Grassroots Sports Ministry in Kenya Is Using Basketball, Mentorship, and Faith to Shape the Next Generation of Leaders

Shoot For Africa

In the heart of Kenya’s Rift Valley, a quiet revolution is underway. It's not political or economic—it’s personal, powerful, and played out on dusty courts and grassy fields. It’s a movement led by Shoot for Life Kenya, and it's changing lives one game, one coach, and one prayer at a time.

🏀 Sports as a Pathway to Purpose

Eldoret is famous for producing world-class long-distance runners. But while the spotlight often shines on the track, Shoot for Life is building something just as enduring—champions of character, faith, and leadership through sports like basketball and lacrosse.

At the core of this mission is a bold three-part strategy: Invest. Teach. Inspire.

“We are not just coaching kids to play. We are investing in the next generation of leaders,” says Moses Muge, the National Director of Shoot for Life Kenya.
  • 9+ Years of community-based youth development
  • 5+ Counties actively served, including Eldoret, Kisumu, Nairobi, and Nandi
  • 1000+ Young Athletes engaged through camps, huddles, and training annually
  • 30+ Coaches trained and mentored in character-driven leadership

These figures are impressive—but what’s more inspiring is what they represent: thousands of lives touched by faith, sport, and consistent mentorship.

⛺ Camps That Change Lives

🤝 Mentorship: The Real MVP

Beyond training drills and team talks, the Huddles—small, intentional Bible study groups led by character coaches—are where real transformation happens. These are weekly sessions where young athletes open up about life, faith, and identity in a safe, nurturing environment.

“In our huddles, we don't just talk about basketball. We talk about integrity, choices, and who we want to become,” says one local coach from Kisumu.

These huddles are led by volunteer coaches who are more than trainers—they’re spiritual big brothers and sisters. They model faith, discipline, and grace under pressure.

🌍 A Bigger Vision for Kenya

Shoot for Life isn’t stopping with camps and huddles. The team is expanding across the country and equipping more Area Coordinators, each tasked with replicating the model in their local community.

Key regions currently served include:

  • Western Kenya (Bungoma, Kisumu)
  • Central Rift (Eldoret and Nandi)
  • Nairobi & Kiambu County
  • Mombasa & Coastal Kenya

And with ongoing investments in coach education and partnerships, the dream is simple yet ambitious: to see sports-driven spiritual growth ignite across Kenya.

💬 Final Whistle

In a world where many youth face peer pressure, broken systems, and unclear purpose, Shoot for Life is proving that a basketball or lacrosse stick—when placed in the right hands—can become a tool for hope.

Whether it's a 10-year-old discovering confidence for the first time, or a young adult stepping up to lead their first camp session, sports is just the start.

Shoot for Life is not just building athletes. They are shaping leaders.
